In this two day workshop, Valerie will guide you through the basics of sketch structure, writing techniques, and even how a writer’s room works. Over the course of Saturday July 1st and Sunday July 2nd, you’ll learn how to get your ideas from your head onto the page and collaborate with the other writers. Valerie will help you break down the different elements that make up a successful sketch.
You’ll also learn how to pitch and revise sketches in a writer’s room setting. And the best part? You’ll come out of this workshop with a co-written sketch that you will perform in a live performance on Sunday night. Our workshop is suitable for performers of all experience levels. We’ll help you refine your skills and build your confidence in a supportive and collaborative environment.

Valerie Vasilas is a performer, writer, director, producer, teacher, a mover and a shaker, and the wearer of many other hats. She got her start in comedy because she thought that she invented improv.
(it was her college thesis and she went around calling it “unscripted theatre”).
She has trained at iO West, The Pack Theater, and The School for Theatre Creators. Her background is in physical theatre, where she’s trained in Commedia dell’Arte, clown, mask and puppetry.
Valerie is a founding member of Moonshot, a Pack Theater house sketch team. Currently based out of Denver, she is the director of the Rise Comedy Theater’s sketch program and the director for Snack Table, the Rise house sketch team. She has had her digital content featured on WhoHaHa, Funny or Die, as well as at live events in New York City and Los Angeles. She loves kale, potatoes, and burritos.
